Where LFG comes from
LFG started in online role-playing games in the late 1990s and 2000s, where the best content needed a full party and players advertised in chat that they were looking for one. Games later built it in as tools: World of Warcraft's Looking For Group and Dungeon Finder, and fireteam finders in games like Destiny 2.
Today most looking-for-group happens on Discord. Gaming servers keep LFG channels where players post what they want to play, and the conversation moves into a voice channel once the group is full.
How to write an LFG post that fills
- The game and the activity: "Valorant competitive", "Helldivers 2, difficulty 10".
- How many players you need: "need 2" fills faster than "LF more".
- What matters to you: rank, region, language, platform, mic or no mic.
- When: now, or a time with a timezone.
